Brayden Matyniak

Aspiring network administrator studying computer science and cybersecurity at Arizona State University

My Story

My passion for programming began when I made my very first video game at 11 years old—in PowerPoint, using hyperlinks and animations to create a world that players could move in and interact with. Soon after starting high school, I was elected to be my class's student council treasurer. It was a simple job, occasionally entering a couple of number into a spreadsheet. To me, though, it was an opportunity to innovate once again with that same out-of-the-box thinking. I studied the intricacies of Excel and macros to create a system of automations, taking care of tasks like creating printed documents, voter verification for elections, and recording minutes for meetings. I got so good with Excel that I received 1st place in a national competition for it. This experience made me realize how many amazing ideas were being held back by people not taking advantage of the technology available to them, and started my shift toward IT. After graduating, I started a small business that continued these services for high schools called Club Docs. Soon after, I discovered homelabbing and narrowed my focus to networks. Now, I'm looking for new opportunities to exceed expectations.

Work Experience

August 2024 — Present

Systems Consultant, Club Docs

In this position, I contacted club advisors at local high schools and offered personalized automation for their most common procedures. I commonly used tools like Microsoft Forms, Excel, and Power Automate for these jobs.

Alternative Text Editor, Arizona State University

In this position, my team and I formatted written materials like textbooks and worksheets into accessible media for visually impaired students. While working with the Equidox software, I quickly noticed areas of our work that were being held back by repetitive actions, and created a Chrome extension to improve the speed and quality of our output. The day of its release, it was adopted into our standing operating procedures, and I was given a SUN Award as recognition.

Projects

Homelab

I repurposed an old desktop computer into a server, running Proxmox VE. It is protected by an OPNsense firewall, with Cloudflared tunnels and Crowdsec as additional layers of security. Services include an ad-blocking DNS, a VPN, a media server, and cloud storage. I have included a public album link as a demonstration.

Ezidox Extension

This extension makes text remediation using Equidox more simple and efficient than ever. Some feature include automatic suggestions for optimal JAWS screen reader compatibility, shortcuts for AI-generated image descriptions, integration with Equatio for math transcription, and even customizable themes to make your workspace you own.

Hobbies

Outside of work and school, I spend most of my time involved with a club on campus called Christian Challenge. I serve as a student leader, hosting weekly bible studies, helping to lead discussions during our larger gatherings, and reaching out to students on campus. I also volunteer at my church, managing our slides. When I have free time, I like to work on a fiction novel that I have been drafting, or go to the gym.
